What is considered the highest quality 100% receiver for a standard, fixed-stock, 7.62x39 build? I have looked at NoDak, Childers, and McKay. They all seem like quality pieces. I won't be doing the build myself. But I am supplying all of the parts. I would certainly appreciate any advice.

It really depends on what you're building and what your end goal is. McKay and Nodak are the same (McKay makes them for Nodak)**. McKay/Nodak are great for Bulgarian/Russian pattern '74 builds due to the cosmetic features like the selector dimple and rate reducer bump. I think they base their standard AKM receivers on Hungarian examples. Plus I think that McKay/Nodak are the easiest receivers to build on. Childers are nice and build up very easily as well, but their cosmetic features are all based on Polish specs (because he uses Polish made blanks), which look weird on certain builds to a person that's really into those details, but a normal person would never notice. Childers has the most options when it comes to customizing each individual receiver, which is really nice.

For highest quality as far as authentic look and cosmetic features you can't beat David's receivers over at 74u LLC. The most expensive of the bunch, the longest wait (well over a year), not always the easiest to build on. But aside from a factory receiver they're hard to beat in terms of appearance and resale value.

**I've just been told that McKay does NOT make receivers for Nodak, but instead that they use the same stamping house and they're built to each company's own specs. My bad.
