Im getting myself in the game but i'm pretty strapped for cash and tools, what are some inexpensive ways I can assemble this gun?

Ooh I was wanting to know how to build a Noob! HaHaHa!
Ok you have to realise if you build it cheap, you can only expect to come out with a cheap gun! But if you take your time, buy quality parts, don't take short cuts, & learn as you go you will end up with a gun to be proud of. |

LOL title change to avoid confusion My real problem is how im going to rivet this thing. If you have a bench vise, drill some rivet sized holes on the top of the jaws to use as a bucking plate. You also need a clamp or two to hold everything together. For the easy rivets, use a big punch and a hammer. For the hard to reach trigger guard rivets, repurpose a piece of steel and grind relief cuts into it so it fits on the rivet end. I bought some sort of tire tool at HF and cut it down and was out about $8. While at HF, pick up a bolt cutter (About $13.) You will have to grind the tips to work. Just some stuff I did on my latest build after my HF vise broke, I used it for bucking bars and such. Also broke the bolt cutters right as the last rivet was set |

The easiest way is to buy a press like this one, it is what most builders start with.(20% off coupons can be found everywhere)
http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-shop-press-33497.html Most of the jigs and tools can be made by hand if you have a little imagination & some skill. Like this rivet tool made from a 3/4" bolt. AK bolt riveter If you have access to a Hyd. press you can make a riveter out of a 3/4" grade 8 bolt. Here is a sketch showing you how it fits inside the receiver, so you can squeeze the rivets. It helps to keep the bolt as short as possible. You will need to buy a 4" or 5" or longer bolt so you can cut off the threaded part
I used a cheap angle grinder with a thin cut off wheel to cut and shape the bolt. http://www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-angle-grinder-91222.html Be careful not to get the bolt too hot when grinding, because that will take the temper out of the steel & you will need to get another bolt to start over. |

Thank you! That is way cheaper/easier than the bolt cutter route. |

Heres my grade 8 SHCS riveting bolt...tacked a round pivot on it. It does not silde out like a block and also helps it from tipping side to side.

There is a way to do "spot" welds with a MIG welder, would this be a viable replacement? Yes you can weld your lower rails in with a MIG welder it is called a rosette weld. Here is how. http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/plug-weld.htm |
