Im getting myself in the game but i'm pretty strapped for cash and tools, what are some inexpensive ways I can assemble this gun?

Ooh I was wanting to know how to build a Noob! HaHaHa!

Ok you have to realise if you build it cheap, you can only expect to come out with a cheap gun!

But if you take your time, buy quality parts, don't take short cuts, & learn as you go you will end up with a gun to be proud of.

Best deal on new tooling is the kit from AK Machinest on AKFiles. Plinker rivet jig, long rivet jig, trigger guard jig, and barrel press kit for $245.

Your other option is to browse the forums for used tools or find a build party.

If you have a bench vise, drill some rivet sized holes on the top of the jaws to use as a bucking plate.  You also need a clamp or two to hold everything together.  For the easy rivets, use a big punch and a hammer.  For the hard to reach trigger guard rivets, repurpose a piece of steel and grind relief cuts into it so it fits on the rivet end.  I bought some sort of tire tool at HF and cut it down and was out about $8.  While at HF, pick up a bolt cutter (About $13.)  You will have to grind the tips to work.

Just some stuff I did on my latest build after my HF vise broke, I used it for bucking bars and such.  Also broke the bolt cutters right as the last rivet was set

I had to build a special tool for the trigger guard on my Galil build. Here's a pic.

Also, where are you in Tx?

Do the modified bolt cutters work on all of the rivets minus the trigger gaurd?

The easiest way is to buy a press like this one, it is what most builders start with.(20% off coupons can be found everywhere)

Most of the jigs and tools can be made by hand if you have a little imagination & some skill.
Like this rivet tool made from a 3/4" bolt.

AK bolt riveter

If you have access to a Hyd. press you can make a riveter out of a 3/4" grade 8 bolt.
Here is a sketch showing you how it fits inside the receiver, so you can squeeze the rivets. It helps to keep the bolt as short as possible. You will need to buy a 4" or 5" or longer bolt so you can cut off the threaded part

I used a cheap angle grinder with a thin cut off wheel to cut and shape the bolt.

Be careful not to get the bolt too hot when grinding, because that will take the temper out of the steel & you will need to get another bolt to start over.

If you have a solid rear trunnion, you'll need a way to get those rivets. You could probably make something to slip into a regular bench vice.

Thank you! That is way cheaper/easier than the bolt cutter route.

There is a way to do "spot" welds with a MIG welder, would this be a viable replacement?

Heres my grade 8 SHCS riveting bolt...tacked a round pivot on it. It does not silde out like a block and also helps it from tipping side to side.
