I need a side rail mounted on my Draco SBR. How hard is this to do? I'm mechanically inclined and the kind of person who would rather "just do it myself" if possible.

I've also asked a few AK builders in my state about having them install one... It would cost me over $100, an hour and a half drive, and they want me to coordinate a time to meet them (which is difficult with my work schedule) or to leave the rifle with them for up to 4 weeks. If it's a reasonably simple thing to do, I'd much rather skip all that mess and do it myself.

Is it pretty straightforward to install if I use a quality bolt-on kit like this http://www.collectorssourcedfw.com/mpk-2.html?
Or is it easy to screw up so a professional should do it?

I really appreciate your guys feedback.

I did mine myself.  I used a rail with rivets for my Romanian rife.  I lined it up, drilled the holes (I think it used the long stock rivet too, I cant remember), and riveted it myself.

You will need some sort of rivet tool to do it correctly.  I used modified bolt cutters.

HOWEVER

That rail looks pretty good for a bolt on.  Good enough that I just bought one for my Bulgarian AK-74 build.  The price is more than right, it's cheaper than the real thing.  Just be sure to drill the holes just  a tiny bit smaller than the screws so there is no slop at all.

I would say go for it.  It doesn't look like the original but it's close enough for me.
