| not sure if I should parkerize, paint etc basically finish before installing barrel also trunions what say ye? |
|
Once I got the build process down I started Duracoating inside the receiver and parts that were going to be covered after assembly to protect against moisture and rust. As I prepare to build another 4-5 kits I plan on parkerizing them once I have them demilled and again with the black finish after I am finished (we recently figured out the process with some in white AR barrels). I hope this helps. |
| I have the supplies to Park but havent learned to do it yet so I have been using Gunkote and Duracote on most builds after I put it together and before I install the Furniture. The only thing I dont like is the Saftey lever usually takes off the paint after a matter of time and you have a arc where it travels.. |

The only thing I dont like is the Saftey lever usually takes off the paint after a matter of time and you have a arc where it travels.. It's really easy. There are some decent vids on YouTube you might want to watch beforehand - just search for parkerizing. Make sure... your parts are completely degressed before park'ing. ...your solution is at the proper (sustained) temp throughout the process. ...you drop your parts in a hot water bath immediatly after the park tank (to prevent phosphate streaking). ...you spray or soak your parts thoroughly with WD-40 after the water bath. |

I park the riveted receiver with trunnions and trigger guard as one piece, and the barrel as one piece. Small parts seperate. If I could park the barrelled assembly that would be better but my tank isnt big enough. You should come across the Rockies and join us, we had a SS made specifically for our AK builds and it easily holds a completed AK receiver, barrel and all. |
