For those that are just starting their first builds or have never done this proceedure, I think you will like this. If you examine your old reciever stubs, you will notice that the sheetmetal is dimpled down into the trunnions. This is what you need to do to your new reciever, before you rivet it.

Start by making sure you have swell neck rivets, from akbuilder. They are very nice.Take a large punch, or piece of tool grade steel stock.  grind a tip like this  ^ on its nose that fits in the rivet hole but also is larger than the hole.  > =

Put each trunnion in position, one at a time, and shot peen each rivet hole down nice n tight, before you rivet. This mashes the sheet metal down nice n tight against the trunnion holes. Not only will this hold the trunnion in place much better, but it will allow the swell neck rivet to expand much easier, thus ensuring an extremely strong rivet, like the original factory job.

Or if you have the AKBuilder rivet jig, you already have the tools you need to do this
Swell necks are the way to go, especially if you fully harden your receivers; your rifle will basically last forever...
I even countersink my rommie front trunnions so I can use swell necks on them.

Ball bearings work good for this too

Yes and you can squish them with the rivet squishing tool so you don't bang against the trunnion "wings"...

certainly the ak builder rig is the way to go,but its $250. Its very nice, you can make a similar rig if you got the tools and metal working skilz.

I can get by with out it,using homemade tools

this cost next to nothing, thats the point.

a bearing will work too.I did try bearings too originally, but I get better results because of the angle of the tip vs being rounded.  (  vs <

still great idea too, with bolt cutter rig mashing it !!
