| I hate to take out the really smooth FEG FCG, but I'm afraid I've put too many evil features on it. I have assembled several AR lowers and detail-stripped many different guns. Is there anything in particular to watch for when changing out the AK trigger and hammer? |

Things to watch-out for include:
Issues with disconnector engagement (as seen with Tapco G2 groups in NDS-3 receivers). A trigger that pulls back too far, and causes a geometry problem between the disconnector and rearward-traveling bolt carrier (tries to push the disconnector down, not back..). Proper re-installation of the shepherd's crook or whatever type of retainer your gun uses. If it's a plain crook, it hooks around the center support (short side of hook faces down) then BELOW the hammer pin and ABOVE the trigger pin. Failure of the safety lever to fully block the trigger in the 'safe' position. Probably a couple others, but that's what comes to mind. -L |
| Thanks for the tips. Now, the question is single or double hook? I have one gun with a Tapco G2 single-hook already installed, and one with the original single-hook FCG, which I have to replace with USA. The original parts look a lot 'beefier' than the Tapco, particularly the width of the hook. For this reason I'm speculating that the double hook in the Tapco would offer more security in hammer retention and the added benefit of equal pressure on both sides of the hammer (preventing hammer twist at cock) with the possible drawback of more drag in the trigger pull. |

Some people, including me, have found it necessary to file a bevel at the rear of the trigger to allow the tab on the safety to ride over the trigger. That's no big thing.
I find the double hook to have a lighter pull. Many would argue about that. I just use the trigger that fits the receiver. |
