I haven't used anything on my builds, but I also like the look of a "lightly" refinished military weapon. I'm unaware of anything that would be appropriate in this particular application.
If you have the metal stripped, my guess is that the nicks look much worse than they will with a finish applied. |

Best option is to just finish. That will hide most inperfections.
Lauer Duracoat does sell a scratch filler: http://www.lauerweaponry.com/index.cfm?Category=320 |

I thought about bondo, but I didn't think it would hold up over time given the recoil and stresses on the receiver. It would definitely be easier to use though. I have used lead body solder on HD tanks - harder then bondo, smoother etc...bit (well alot) harder to work then bondo, but it's solid. Eastwood has the kits (or used to) Sean |

Go with solder, any other filler is going to take finish different than the steel and you won't be able to use any of the baked finish products like dura coat or moly resin. Yes it will. I've used JB weld with molyresin and gunkote and you couldn't see where I used the JB weld afterwards. I applied a first coat and when it finished baking, I buffed the spot with 0000 steel wool and reapplied finish over the area again and baked. |

Agreed all my G's were filled with JB-Weld, then Moly-Resin'd, Duracoated, or Gunkoted over. Works like a champ. |
