I have a polish kit that was put together by a 'AK builder'. That has a beautiful polished blued finish. 2 or 3 of the rivets are no set correctly, meaning not set flush. I diddnt say anything when I got it back because I didnt want to appear difficult.
I have done rivets before with my rivets squeezers that did a fine job. Some of the rivets are inaccessable now, so squezzing is no longer an option. Before i start trying some things , is there a proven way to set the rivet head to the correct depth? I ddnt pay much for the assembly and its certainly not garbage but the finish on it is second to none. rivet Im am having trouble posting a pic but here is the link. The one on the right I rivet squeezed some. The problem to me if I do nothing is resale |

Just looked at the picture. I don't think those rivets will pose a problem for you but that is sloppy workmanship. The magwell rivet wasn't set properly either. Swell neck rivets require that the receiver be dimpled so that the rivet head sits flush with the receiver. It look like the "swell" of the rivet head is sitting above the surface of the receiver. It doesn't appear that the builder dimpled the receiver for the swell neck. If you live in the Portland, OR area, I'd offer to help you fix them. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/rr83/larry-marseilles/polish%20underfolder/IMGP1337.jpg The magwell was worse then it looks now. Doesnt make sense as to why it was like that when other areas of the build were done well. A few of the rivets heads ( not shown ) seem to just touch the receiver. I just looked it over again and the 2 magwell rivets are not set all the way and then the one that is in the picture on the left. Should I try to compress/ set them by hand? |

It's not a difficult thing to fix.... it's not a difficult thing to get right the first time either. I could pull the barrel and fix those rivets in about 1 hour and I'm just a lowly home builder. |

Your right, I'll run it by him. Thanks guys. |
| If it were me,,,,,I would send it to someone else and have it reriveted correctly.I'm sorry, but that guy sent this to you in that condition should not be assembling these.have it headspaced while youre at it.We don't need nice guys like you sending in picks of yourself after a kaboom....Having to pay for shoddy work,,,,SUCKS |

Thye only downside to that is the wait time. |
