My roommate has access to a machine shop but I dont have a jig for bending a flat.

They have a bending break that he could do the bending on.

we have access to an arbor press but I dont have a jig.

What do we need to know to bend these flats up?

Not many guys have had much luck useing a brake to bend flats.  A nice bend is within a few thousandths. and a brake is hard to keep these tolerances in two bends.  there is a lot of info on the various forums on bending flats.  Youtube even has a few vids.  Good luck and Happy AK Building, Steve

P.S. Here are a few pics of my home made jig.  i hope it helps.

Just turn the nuts and it will suck the flat right in.  Dont forget the grease.  You will also notice that I didnt weld the angle down.  thats because after the initial bend I line the bottom of the bend with the bottom of the jig then put it in the vise and give an extra squeeze to finish the 90deg bend.

Do you by any chance have the plans online somewhere for the jig? Like measurements?

Did you use the 555th plans? Sorry to sound like an idiot, I have very little machining experience. I need exact dimensions so I can have my buddy make this.

The 555th jig blueprints have been out there a long time, and a lot of folks have built and used them without any problems.

Here is my attempt at quick blue prints.  The space between my angle iron jig(not shone in this pic) is around: 1.350 +/- .007
