You lube an AK? I thought you just wiped them off now and then This is a common problem with different causes. As already mentioned I would take a close look at how the ejector and bolt mate. If it is either too small or too large this will happen sporatically. Second I would check the cycling of the bolt/carrier, is it nice and smooth or is it a bit tough? That would involve cleaning up the upper rails with dremel (I usually polish mine to avoid problems) but would not be limited to those. The rough cycling could also be the result of a piston excessively rubbing inside the gas port/FSB (front sight block). There are other causes such as partially plugged gas holes but not as likely as what I have already mentioned. Inspect it for what we have mentioned and let us know if that is it. If not you may find yourself doing something you don't need to or even worse creating another problem trying to fix something (an example was I thought my ejector was rubbing my carrier and nearly cut it all the way before I realized it was a UTG quadrail that was causing my problems, I took it off and then it cycled fine but then it would not eject, so I had to install a new lower rail/ejector that was my first 100% build after having built several on NDS receivers). |

We shot it again and it is still acting up. We lubed it well and shot it with the cover off and no problems, when we put the cover on it jammed again. Originally the cycling of the bolt carrier was not very smooth, we got it to head pace a bit closer and it was smooth. How can we tell if we have a problem with the ejector and bolt mating? Thanks for the help |

It looks like it is striking the CH and bouncing back. Does not look like one round hit the fulcrum area on the dust cover that is supposed to be hit. Your CH looks bent too. That could be part of the problem. Try a different carrier. Check your ejector tab mating to a known good gun and lube your gun. |
One thing is certain, eventually the AK will work. Unlike my Colt 380 which seems to get worse the longer it is since my last rebuild an AK will get better with use. Eventually (if it is assembled within specs) it will take anything you give it. Unfortunately times are tough and we don't have enough money to break them in by shooting thousands of rounds through them and that is why God created Dremels. |
When you pull back the bolt carrier slowly, while looking through the mag opening, look for the bolt carrier being pushed off to the side. If it is, the ejector is too long and causing binding. If you decide to dremel it, do not forget to harden it, and do not be tempted to round it off. It should be a nice sharp corner. |
| Well, I just want to tell all that helped out "THANKS". I shot 300 rounds through this baby during the annual BOTTER shoot and not one jam or even a hiccough. It ran perfectly... Thanks again!!! Also, I refinished the rifle before the shoot and this is how it looks now. http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp152/szubas1/IMG_0328.jpg |
