| Just finished my first build and the carrier wont close with the bolt in it but it closes fine without ther are no drag marks on the hammer and this is a #s matching kit any one got a wild guess |
|
a couple of scenarios for this. #1.I would first look to see if the lower rails are lined up with the trunion,at the right distance, they might have dropped on ya and if there is any new shiny spots on the trunion lips.(bolt hitting it and stopping.) #2. look at the ejector,is it trimmed enough or is it trimmed at all to give the bolt free travel to the trunion. #3.are your mag well stablizers trimmed, trimmed enough, just a thought on this, nothin to do with the cituation. #4.does it do this with the mag in,is it hitting the mag top.again just a thought. start with these . |
| Yes, most would suggest the $200 fix (shoot 1,000 rounds through it) but times have changed and many are turning to alternatives. While I am not afraid to use a Dremel some good lapping compound can go a long way (nothing fancy, just some valve lapping compound available in most automotive stores). Now the cause, with it being matching parts my guess is when the barrel was pressed back in it went a hair too far (in this case I would lean more towards the $200 fix or pressing it back out a little bit). Unfortunately if you were not the one who did it then it is tough to say if that really is the cause. There is a good chance that a few rounds through the barrel would help if it was before you do the lapping bit but having built all mine and known them like a mother knows her child it is tough to say what to do if you just don't know. |
And after building and overseeing the building over nearly 100 AKs I am telling you from first hand experience it causes this problem and would advise pressing out a little bit (this can be done simply by stripping the rifle and putting it back in the press as it only takes "some" pressure to do it) rather than the lapping I suggested. The reason why is if you lap you will increase the headspacing if the barrel migrates out on its own. I don't suggest getting upset at who ever helped you as we builders are not professionals and we all are still learning (even after nearly 100 builds, but then again I don't charge, perhaps if money was involved you might want some back or at least a free change to fix this). I hope this helps though and you have it working properly soon. |
| Take some time and figure out exactly where the bolt is hitting the trunion when it enters. file or hand work some radius on the area until it goes in more smoothly. I had one do the same thing on one of mine. the bolt was hitting a corner of the trunion when it entered by the stop lug. |
