I've built plenty of AK's, but I'm thinking of doing a sidefolder triangle type stock on a new AK-74 kit.  Question is, can I just add the sidefolder stock/trunnion, and front latch assembly to a standard AK-74 (or AKM for a Kyber pass build), or is there any modification needed to the front trunnion.

I have the AK-74 kit I want to use, in standard stock setup, so I'm hoping I can just buy the sidefolder assy and be good.  Someone please let me know...

I've been wondering the same thing.  Where do you go to purchase the side folder/trunion?

There is a hole machined into the bottom of the front trunnion to accept the latch pin. If you plan on using a standard receiver, you'll need to be good with a milling machine. Otherwise, you'll probably want a side folder receiver.

actually it (the hole) is drilled all the way through the trunion.I have the measurements on the receiver for the slot and hole for the side folder(74) if ya want them.the slot for the latch will be the devil to do unless you saved your used cutting wheels that are leftover to make the corner cuts.(they are smaller) and small files are essential to the squarness.it can be done..plus you have the cuts for the joint(hinge) to..

You can do it, depending on your personal tastes. How important fit and finish are versus doing it yourself.

I'm going to be doing a Russian side folder on a AK pistol / SBR, as soon as The stamp comes. I've never done one before but it should be fun. The 1 page instructions are unreadable that K-var sent with the stock.  I've been serching all over to find any info on the instalation on a std recever. Havent found much, I thought there would be more info and picks of others builds. If any one has info or picks please post. I'll post my build as soon as I the stamp.

That's what I did to one of my fixed stock 74's.  Plan on doing the same thing to another whenever I get the rest of the parts do finish it.  Mainly waiting for another Bulgarian Siderail to appear somewhere someday somehow...

It is really pretty easy.  Provided you get a receiver already cut for the sidefoler such as the NDS-2SF or NDS-1KP.  I just lined up the pin in the receiver and marked it.  Punch it and drilled w/ a 5/42 bit all the way through.  It all fit together like a glove.  On AKM's you may have to remove a bit of metal in order for the latch to fit and to be able to drill on a flat surface.  I haven't gotten around to doing my Khyber Pass Clone yet.  I do have a spare Bulgarian Sidefolder though.

The one on the right started out as one of ORF's new painted fixed stocks back in the day when they were $229.

Please ignore the ugly floor its a rental home.
