Looking for someone who sells or has a good idea for a press fixture to press the barrel off of a barreled receiver.  Haven't been able to find anything so far.
I'm wanting to remove the barrel from a S-308 Saiga for some mods.

                 Thanks

C channel from Home Depot $14.50? Bolted together face to face loosely, 5/8" hole drilled through the center. Unit clamps around the barrel under whatever you're pressing off. Ignore the hinges, they're field expedient spacers so it wouldn't bind on the barrel.

Press off.

Press back on. It's a borrowed 8ton press so it's too short for a rifle. I set it on saw horses and extended the base downwards w/ some flatbar. Used a pipe nipple to apply the force to the GB/FSB . Need to rig a support so the front trunnion takes all the stress. Flat bar thru the magwell works.

Or a bolt under the front trunnion.

Sparky,  looks to me like the 2nd pic was pressing the gas block off the barrel.  I want to press, or pull the barrel OUT of the receiver. In other words pressing on the chamber end ,out the front of the receiver . I don't see how you would do that with your setup.

 Am i missing something  ??

Sorry, reading comprehension IS critical.

Modify the given example. Use the same jig to hold the barrel in place while you use flatbar on either side of the barrel to apply the force down onto the front trunnion instead? Don't know if the pins in the GB would give before the trunnion did, though.

ETA: If I still had the press I'd try to mock it up.

This is what I use:

Just put some pennies/nickels between the pusher and the barrel.  I use a c-clamp to hold the legs of the puller tight to the trunnion.

Unless that puller is awfull short it don't look like there's enough room to get in there and be able to turn it.

The only way this works is if you remove the trunnion from the receiver.  If you aren't going to remove the trunnion from the receiver then I wish you luck.

I suppose you could get a length of brass rod and try to beat it out.

Jackstands from HF:

I've took a barrel off one with a complete receiver before too. Just use a long socket extender at a slight angle (and pennies of course).

And take the sight off too... and Go slow.

I have never done this so this is more idea than experience. Since th barrel has to move less than 2 inches what about using a length of threaded rod or long bolt and a peice of round stocck threaded to match the rod and placing it against the rear trunion and and tuning the bolt or nuts to push the barrek out?

If that is the setup you're referring to, it don't look like a complete receiver to me.  It looks like a demill or one without a rear trunnion.

Everybody,  I really do appreciate all the help and suggestions, but i'm not gonna deliberately try and create an accident and maybe screw up my gun by trying to push the barrel out with somethin about a foot long tilted on an angle. I'm not that desperate yet to get it off and think i have an idea how i can push it out in a straight line.

Just got thru driving off the rear sight block and talk about a bitch.  Man that sucker was tight. After you,ve stripped a barrel on an AK you begin to appreciate why they're so indestructable and reliable. The pin came right out ,the rear sight block did not.

Thanks again ,  will keep ya posted

I pulled one out of a receiver that did not have the rear trunnion in it still, I think, but the memory is traumatic and I can't exactly recall!  My main concern was not to damage thr front of the receiver.

If the rear trunnion is in place, could you not construct a rod or bar with cuts the length of the desired movement of the barrel to avoid eg the rear trunnion?  Think of a thick steel bar with the required cuts and pushing against a short rod (or 12mm socket) pushing against pennies on the barrel's chamber end.

I think i have the solution .Will fab up some pieces and try it out this coming week.

If it works out i'll be sure to share it with ya.

Many thanks for all the suggestions and ideas to everyone................

PS  And a special thanks to Sparky 923 for the Horizontal Pics............headbang.gif

This works for me

the washer keeps the barrel from being damaged
keep the ram as close to the receiver as possible for leverage

sr-47 ,   Pretty wild looking setup. What size are the pins? If my idea doesn't work out i'll look into it.................

use the largest pins you can fit in the setup
the purpose of the pins are to allow the bar to pivot
the upper pin must be used
the lower can be a piece of flat stock this may be better as the pin can roll out
