I have a ak 74 that ihas a slightly damaged crown on the muzzle and am wondering if there is a tool that a do it yourselfer can recrown or clean up the crown without removing and chucking in a lathe. I am picturing a caliber specific brass bushing that a guide with a cutter on the end is inserted. Is there anything out there like this?

Go down to the hardware store and buy one 1/4-20 or 28 round head brass bolt at least 1 inch long.  Go to the auto parts store and buy either Clover compound or some valve grinding compound.  Chuck the bolt into a hand drill, dip in the grinding compound and turn at a slow speed against the crown.

"Slightly" means different things to different people.  The brass bolt & compound does work for truly minor dings.  If you have a serious peen to the muzzle, a cutter set from Brownells is great.

I bought mine several years ago, and have been very pleased.
