I have a wirefeed welder. Wouldnt it be better to weld an ak together in the right spots than to rivit it? I am just wondering. It might not. I just figured a good 1" bead in a few spots in the front and then in the rear would do the trick. What do you all think? Has anyone done it? I know someone has used bolts but I would figure that they would eventualy strip out being in some spots there is little to no threads, maybee a thread and a half.

rivet>bolt>weld>drive screws

DO NOT ruin a perfectly good parts kit by welding on it.

You certainly can but realize that would mean 2 things, if you screw up you have lost the whole kit.  Second you will never be able to rebuild it if necessary, the parts welded to the receiver (namely the rear and front trunions) would be toast.  I would say rivet it, but it's your kit and your money and the kits are starting to show signs of running low (there is a limit to everything).

Yes you can weld it.  No in my opinion you should not.If you lack the capacity to press the rivets then go udrive.

you do not need to use 1in seams.
Just use 1/4in Plug welds offset from where the rivet would be. 6 for the front
and 4 for the rear.
Same for the rails if you are making a reciver.
besure that you are a good welder..If not .
practice practice..practice...

Some of these guys are so narrow minded when it comes to different methods
of assembly....

A while back somebody had posted pictures of their welded trunnion pieces on their receiver.  It looked hot.  They did a nice job.  I would be concerned about screwing up though...

here is a yugo rpk that was a milled kit, trunnions were ground down to fit inside a tapco flat and pro tig welded.this was done when yugo milled rpk kits wer $119 and there were no other way to rebuild them.there are more options now.the rifle came out good, runs well with no problems.

Always have used rivet for trinions but did play with welding the rails just for something different. These are the only handy pictures of it after welded and painted noticed that some of the welds hadn't completely filled in the holes (for appearance only) went back and filled them and sanded down for better looks.

Welds have held for over 1K of ammo.

you can do plug welds and it will make a nice rifle

you do need to remove the rivets tho

cause you do need to weld at or close to where they are

the value of the rifle will be alot less but if you dont plan to ever sell it like most people who cares
