How many people actually use these every time. I know the theory behind it but I've be cleaning rifles ( mostly hunting ) for 40 years and I've never used one. Since I'm not a sniper by trade I don't generally look to get that kind of accuracy out of my shooters. I also haven't seen any crown wear using the aluminum cleaning rods and I've cleaned some of these guns at least 1k times. So yes, I know why your supposed to use them. Do you guys actually religiously use them?

I do...I have a Delrin O-Ring Bore Guide from US Armorment.

As for my cleaning rod I use one piece 36" Tipton Carbon Fiber Cleaning Rod, 22-26 Caliber.

That's right...Walmart.  Never know what you can find there.

I always use a bore guide.

That being said, I have a mix of bore guides. A couple universals, and several specific to a given action. I have a Dewey and Stoney point universal bore guide. Then I have action specific bore guides for the AR, Remington 700, Springfield 1903, Swedish Mauser, etc, by Sinclair Intl.

Although I recently broke my AR bore guide by Sinclair and finally started using the Lucas Bore Guide I bought back in 2006 that I put into a cabinet and never used.

I do, not because I think a hand powered aluminum or carbon rod with a brass tip on it can do anywhere near the damage that a copper jacketed round does when it's slammed into the action by the BCG or the bolt.

I just find it easier to 'hit the hole' when the hole is outside the action.  :)   And for my bolts it keeps unnecessary gunk from dropping down into the magazines etc.

I've always used a bore guide for my bolt action rifles but never had one for my ARs.  Never really had any problems simply letting the butt sit on the floor with the handguard between my knees and clean from the muzzle.  But I was always wondering if a guide would be worthwhile.

Just bought a Pro-Shot AR15 bore guide from Midway and used it for the first time today.  It was very easy to use and I didn't have to try and be so careful about keeping the rod centered in the muzzle.  I have a bipod attached to the rifle, making it simple to break open the action and access the upper receiver, with the buttstock slightly hanging over the workbench.  So far I like it.

I use one every time since I got my Noveske barrel. Their instructions instruct you to use one and since I don't want to do anything that could possible harm the barrel(not cheap) I went out and got one. I went with one from Dewey which is also the brand of cleaning rod they use. I actually find it to be helpful to keep the rod straight and from bowing out. It only takes a few seconds to stick in the action....why not use one?

I find that if you put the round patch on the jag slightly off center you will have less bowing of the cleaning rod.

What I like to do in the AR is use a 20cal Dewey rod and Pro-shot pierce jag and 1-1/2 or 1-3/4 patches. It's a snug, but not tight fit, and you get a lot of patch material to wipe down the bore.

I have been using universal guides for a while and switching it between platforms, but last year, I picked up one of these and don't have to hold on to the guide rod.

I don't, I just use a bore snake. The only thing I use a bore guide for is my Rem. 700. Everything else I just use a boresnake.
