my rifle is now operational and Im wondering about break in. I have a bravo company chrome lined barrel and I have been reading that a break in isn't necessary.
Its not a competition rifle, its a plinker/budget build. Is it totally necessary? |

With chrome lined no. Chrome Moly probably not. I do it just because. I don't think anyone can truly say or prove that it makes much of a difference.
I really would like to know if Nitro Carbonizing really make sit last longer? Does Cold Hammer Forge make it better? Hard to separate fact from fiction now days. |

Quoted:
Due to the hardness of the chrome not only is no break in needed, no break in is even possible. These you just wipe the bore out and go shooting. I would tend to agree with this statement. I've never broken in any AR rifle barrel. I just go out , site in and shoot 60 or so rounds, Go home, clean with Hoppes #9 Bore Solvent and oil with G96 synthetic gun oil. I've owned rifles that have shot repetitive 1" MOA groups @ 100 yds. without a break in being done. |

found this:
"Our [BHW]break in procedure is as follows: 5 rounds of copper jacket bullets, clean with non-copper removing solvent, clean with patch, repeat process for a total of 60 rounds. We recommend shooting a good quality copper jacket bullet." Above from: http://blackholeweaponry.proboards.com/thread/274/barrel-break-procedure#ixzz2gYf7goPe I have not been able to find a "non-copper removing solvent" at a gun store. They all seem to have copper removal capability. |
