So I came up with an invention that helps lubricate ARs and M16s. I've contacted a couple companies to see if they'd be interested in bringing it to the market, but have gotten no responses. I can't describe it because I hold no patent on it. So for now, I'd just have to have them agree to a non-disclosure agreement. But the problem I'm facing is getting their attention in the first place. Wat do?

Get a patent

Then proceed with marketing, and/or shopping it to
larger companies that have better distribution abilities.

I am thinking the first person to file the patent wins, so if you described it to someone who could make it and it is actually worth getting a patent the clock is running.
To get someone’s attention you are going to have to state what your invention will do that is better than what is available and how it will fit the market.
I would imagine unless it is a compelling improvement on the slew of current methods it will not justify the cost to get a patent.

The vehicle dip stick is already been thought of. There is a tv show for this sort of thing that might help try getting on it.

Gun shows usually work to get the word of mouth out.

Try to locate Andrew Sullivan. He worked with Billy Mays.
