Total Noob Question!  My new Colt LE6920 is the  first semi auto rifle I have owned.  I see the term wet and would like to know just what exactly wet means in terms of cleaning and maintenance?

Thank You!

It means keep the bolt carrier group well lubricated. "Run 'em wet" is what you might hear. Perhaps I can rephrase and say it means you should keep it lubricated enough that you can "see" the lubricant on the BCG. It looks "wet". I hope that helps.

The bolt carrier should have a visible sheen of oil on it.
If you touch it, you should be able to drag off oil with your finger.

Like a prom date......

Oil is good......depending on the environment...

Dusty, sandy..not so

Cold...not so

YMMV

Wet to me means dripping. You don't want dripping.

Below is how I do it.  I go into lubrication starting aroud the 14:40 mark if you want to jump to it.     I used grease in the video but any CLP/Oil/wonder lube of the day will work the same on the outside of the carrier.

Hope it helps:

I run my M4 wet. Very. What-ever it doesn't want, it just spits out. The rest either keeps fouling from adhering to the metal, or mixes with grit/carbon/sand/crap and keeps it somewhat fluid instead of letting it lock the mechanism up. This has worked well for me.

i used to run  3-4 drops in the BCG.  When I switched to a stainless barrel I could  see a little oil seeping out from under  the gas block.  Over oiling will result in oil  slinged down the bore when the BCG slams home.   Too much oil in bore could in theory cause pressure spikes.
