| I'm away from home right now, and by the time I get back, it will have been two months, since storing my AR's. I turned the heat off in my house, and my safe is out in the garage, its chilly either way. I'm curious if there is the possibility of corrosion, rust, etc....since I've never left my firearms untouched for this long. I only did basic cleaning and lubing, prior to storing them. Not extra cold weather measures. |

| Dangit......can't wait to get back and find out. There is never any visible moisture, that I have seen in the safe, and the temperature is pretty uniform, even though it is colder. Still issues? If something is bad, I'll definitely do a follow up, with pics for this thread. |

http://www.snipercompany.com/images/ss/products/1/62371.jpg I have some guns that have been stored for 20+ years in RIG, without any problems. My dad has some that have been stored since the 1960's that don't have a speck of rust on them. I'll check into that. I do have a few guns, that haven't left the safe in over a year, and they haven't had any kind of corrosion issues. I guess it's just the paranoia of not being able to take'm out every week and check them to make sure everything is in working order. The last time they went untouched was for a month, and nothing happened. I really hope I'm just being overly paranoid on this. It'll be expensive to fix. Thanks for the help on this guys! I'll keep researching to make sure I don't run into this problem again. |

Most of the guns get no special treatment other than Breakfree from normal cleaning. I have a 1917 M1911, a 1920's Luger, and a 1920's winchester shotgun that get a light coat of RIG. They get this whether I am home or not. Unfortuately RIG was purchased a few years ago by Birchwood Casey. I heard they changed the formula. I still have some of the original, has anyone tried the Birchwood Casey RIG? I LOVE that stuff. |
| I think that if you performed routine maintenence before you stored them which should include applying a light coat of oil to surfaces with the potential to rust you should be fine. I have several guns given to me by my grandfather that are more sentimental than anything and they usually get pulled out of the safe once a year and rubbed down with a rag soaked with break free. No rust as of yet. |

I have some of the new stuff. Didn't know they changed the formula. I am going to try it, but won't know if it works as good as the old stuff, for another 20 years. I hope it is, RIG is good stuff, especially if you have the sheepskin applicator (RIG-RAG). |

i have had great success with eezox. i have yet to find any tests that find something that protects from corrosion any better. i know coating a gun with grease works too but the eezox protects without any build up. just put it on the metal parts, let it dry (couple hours sometimes), wipe excess, reassemble and put away... |
