Im tired of buying the cheapo walmart cleaning kits. I need to throw out the random odds and ends of things that I have and start over with something that has it all.  Just wondering what is tried and true. Let me know.

Otis cleaning kits are great, use them in the military.

These two make for an ideal combination.

The Otis cable also works in my Mosin.

No one makes a really good kit that will fit most anything.
The "universal" kits almost always have jointed rods, either of brass or aluminum, none of which is good for guns.

Most shooters finally settle on building their own kit.
Buy a good tackle box to hold it, and buy one piece stainless steel or carbon fiber rods.
If you have good guns, it's best to buy a rod for .22 and another for larger calibers.  If you have a rifle like an AR-15, M1 or M1A, it's best to buy a rod like a "Service Rifle rod" that's specifically sized for that rifle.

Then buy any special tools or accessories for each gun, including rod tips, patches, and brushes for each caliber.
Buy whatever you like in bore solvents, lubricants, and specialty chemicals like carbon remover.
What you wind up with is a far higher quality kit than if you bought a "one size fits all", and you pay only for the equipment you actually need.

Should I just get an Otis kit just for my AR's and piece the rest together for my other calibers?
