Anybody ever use it to clean your AR?

It would probably work, but I wouldn't.  (unless you clean all of your guns outside).  Ether is extremely flammable and will get you high as a kite if you breathe in too much of the stuff.  I would leave the starter fluid in the garage.

FIFY.

The fire danger from ether CANNOT be overstated. It is EXPLOSIVELY flammable. Bear this in mind if you use it.

It is also very likely to melt or otherwise damage various plastic and rubber items on your gun. If used on a fudd gun it will mar the finish of the wood.

It will also dry your skin out. Wear protective gloves.

In fact, get some other kind of cleaner and work an extra 10 minutes. Ether ain't worth yer life.

It DOES get you high, though.

Haha, good to know.

I used it a couple days ago to get roofing mastic off of my hands. I was so impressed with it, the next logical thought in my mind, was to use it to clean guns.

It looks like I won't be doing that.

What's with the CONSTANT desire to use the wrong tool, chemical, or grease for the job?

I use it all the time on all my guns & no you don`t get high & no you don`t spray it towards lights or electrcal outlets, & no you don`t use it on black powder guns.   It has never melted or damage any wood or anything else on my guns. You don`t use the whole can, you don`t have to. If you keep your guns wet it just washes the gunk off them. Then wipe them down & lube (Mobil-1 & wheel bearing grease) them up. By the way, on black powder firearms you use hot soapy water or Windex with vinegar in it to clean them.

As in, "Hold my beer..."

Good to know, thanks for the review. I don't trust anything that is so volatile. (Bad mistakes made in the past.)

I might be able to understand the desire to use this to clean your guns if  proper gun cleaning solvents and lubricants were not available or extremely expensive. Since none of this is true it amazes me that  people use some of the stuff they do to clean their firearms. I have found nothing better than Mil-Comm products, not in any gun store, auto parts store, or  Home Depot or Lowes.

Lots of effective and safe products, why even consider it?  I don't even use Gun Scrubber anymore.   Brake cleaners, starters, etc can also cause cancer.

Not just black powder, same applies to the corrosive salts in crappy AK ammo too.  You need Windex with ammonia to neutralize the acids.  Vinegar is acidic.
