There was a thread running a couple weeks ago where a guy was T&E a lot of different lubes. Ill see if I can find it. |
| I use the regular slip2000 the EWL and the slip grease on my Osprey pistons..all the lube works great for DI or Piston. The slip stays on the DI rifles for a couple of range trips and the lube stays put..on the piston ive had the same lube on for the last 3 months and 2000 rounds later and the only thing needed to clean was the bore, chamber and bolt face..still the same lube, still running. |

so the CLP is better than the EWL for long term storage in a safe? I would feel that it would be the opposite since the EWL is more gooey and tends to stay in place longer.......discuss I think basically he is using the the CLP to put all over the inside and outside of the rifle before putting away in safe.....vs. EWL is def. to be used much more sparingly and in the past i generally only used it on my internals.....and i have always have fantastic results running my bcgs relatively wet w. CLP. |

When I'm cleaning, I always finish off my cleaning with CLP/FP10, then wipe it down. The stuff that protects is now in place....then I top it off with another lube.
I've been using mobil one with excellent results, seems to stick around much longer similar to EWL. If I were using a gun-specific lube I'd be using EWL, but frankly motor oil is much cheaper and I have yet to find any reason to switch to something else. |

There have also been a couple test recently verifying this is the case. However someone around here did a test that showed CLP to be a better rust preventative. I'll see if I can find the link. |

Here is the thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=7&t=485547 Other similar tests have shown the same result: Breakfree CLP is one of the best corrosion preventatives on the market, however it is only a mediocre cleaner and a shitty lube, IMO. But because of its superb corrosion preventative quality I coat all my bores with it for storage, and anything else that I want to protect from rust, but that's all I use it for anymore. Slip 2000 EWL and machine gunners lube is what I use for lubrication on all of my firearms. |

I think that the lubricating properties of any gun lube does not necessarily relate to how well the lube protects in the safe. I live in the northeast (at the shore) and in the summer it gets pretty humid. My safe is kept pretty much in a constant environment, but anything enclosed will tend to get humid inside ie., safes, etc. Thus I wanted to know which gun lube protects the best. I did a small non scientific study and will be repeating another one in the next few weeks to include a few more products. Here's the link to the original thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=7&t=485547 Regardless, moisture in the safe is not your friend. I have quite a few weapons and like to keep them protected when not being used. I am also looking for a lube that minimizes metal on metal wear and which prevents rust. As a matter of fact, I just (10min ago) installed an Eva-Dry mini dehumidifier in the safe. I had been using a couple of the Remington rechargeable ones with the moisture beads. I got the idea of the dehumidifier from another thread. The humidity level in the safe is typically around 39%-41% with the Remington rechargeables. I was getting tired of having to recharge those things on a weekly basis and thus got the Eva-Dry where all I have to do is empty the reservoir, hopefully once a week. I currently clean and store with Breakfree CLP and lube contact points with SLIP 2000 EWL. There were also some links to other rust studies in my original thread. |

I've used FP-10 oil, Castrol gun lube, slip, and mobil1 and to be honest, my LMT runs just the same with all of them, flawlessly.
As long as you have a decent quality lube and use it correctly, it will work. The difference between lubes that are considered good is negligible. CLP is not a good lubricant in my opinion, it is too thin and evaporates too quickly. It is excellent for cleaning and preservation, and I use it before applying lubrication. |
| I use CLP to line the bores before storage. However as far as a lubricant, I'm not to fond of it. While it does do it's job, it dries up quickly. The Slip 2000 EWL lasts much longer and seems to do a better job of lubrication. The heavier weights are a nice option too. |
| Both cleaner, lube, & preservative (CLP & EWL) are good products. Used properly either works fine. I have found that the Slip EWL2000 stays wet longer on the BCG then CLP. Both clean about the same, none of my guns have any rust so I can't comment on the preservative aspect. I use the Slip2000EWL. |
| TRY THIS PLACE. Probably the cheapest around, even cheaper when you type 'stimulus' for 10% off. |
