I'd like to know what some of you good folks think of using dry lubricants, like Eezox on AR 15's. I use Eezox on my pistols at home and it works very well since they are CCW. But I'm not as sure for my new AR rifle. I'm currently using a petroleum CLP and it seems to be working well at this point. Will the AR take kindly to a synthetic dry lubricant or do these guns want to run wet?
AR's run best when they run wet, and they don't care if the oil is synthetic or not. The direct inpingment system blows powder fouling directly back into the action, and the lack of a liquid lube means the fouling will act like a fine abrasive on the inside of your rifle. The oil lubing your AR is like oil in a car motor. It keeps the particulate in suspension and allows the moving parts to slide against each other. I'm an armorer for my NG unit, and one of the main causes of excessive headspace in the M16 is lack of lubrication on the locking lugs.
Thanks for the responses guys. Seems like the opinions sway 50/50 on this one. I can see how running the gun wet, especially in the upper can make a big difference given the amount of carbon that gets forced into it. I think I will stick to Eezox in my pistols and other rifles that don't crap where they eat. For you guys running the dry lube, how is cleaning and wear for you?
