I've found a 15 year-old Benchmade knife with a bead-blasted stainless blade that has some light surface-rust. I know this isn't a gun question, but I'm sure the method for removing rust from a stainless barrel is the same as a blade.

What's the best way to remove it without marring up the blade? I'd prefer to avoid using steel wool or anything that will scratch the blade, as I'd like to restore it to as nearly-new as possible.

Thanks and regards...

Maybe try scotch brite and wd40, keep the scotch brite wet with WD and it doesn't scratch normally.

Soak the blade in a can of Cole for a day.

Would 0000 steel wool wetted with oil really scratch the metal??  I've used it many times on blued and parkerized firearms to remove light rust and it doesn't damge the blueing or parkerizing.  I guess maybe stainless steel is "softer"??

Yea...near the Dr Peller.

I meant to say COKE.  I should look up and read what I type before I hit submit.

He said it has a flat bead blasted finish, rubbing it with any abrasive will change how it looks. That's why I suggested Coke, soaking in it and then rubbing it with a soft cloth might do it. But. it's hard to say without seeing how bad it is.

I'll try that. The coke won't induce rusting, will it?

+1. Kroil and a rag. Leave the surface with a coat of oil on it. You can never 100% remove the effects of the corrosion, but you can stop it from continuing.
