I've found a 15 year-old Benchmade knife with a bead-blasted stainless blade that has some light surface-rust. I know this isn't a gun question, but I'm sure the method for removing rust from a stainless barrel is the same as a blade.
What's the best way to remove it without marring up the blade? I'd prefer to avoid using steel wool or anything that will scratch the blade, as I'd like to restore it to as nearly-new as possible. Thanks and regards... |

Would 0000 steel wool wetted with oil really scratch the metal?? I've used it many times on blued and parkerized firearms to remove light rust and it doesn't damge the blueing or parkerizing. I guess maybe stainless steel is "softer"?? He said it has a flat bead blasted finish, rubbing it with any abrasive will change how it looks. That's why I suggested Coke, soaking in it and then rubbing it with a soft cloth might do it. But. it's hard to say without seeing how bad it is. |

The coke won't induce rusting, will it? |
