I really dont recall it being this difficult to reinstall my Firing Pin Retaining pin after field stripping and cleaning on my M-16.
Getting it back in my Spikes M4 is a royal pain

Some are.  I find if the split is horiz it goes in easier.

I have tried it all different attitudes with little difference I normally have to take a pair on needle nose and rotate the pin back and forth to find the magic spot.
I picked up a new FPRP yesterday and it too seems slightly splayed  but maybe when I compress the legs to go in the right side it will feed easily through the left side hole.

I tried the new FPRP and it went in much easier even though it was more splayed than the original

Is your bolt carrier unshrouded, in which the firing pin is exposed? M16 carriers are shrouded (firing pin is fully enclosed by the carrier) which  reduces stress on the FPRP.  My ar15 carriers are unstrouded, which reduces the service life of the FPRP.  I use needle nose pliers, and if you can get it in, you are GTG.  However, pick up a spare, since it will become progressively more difficult.  No such problem with my M16 carriers.

Try this.

ROTATE the pin while you push it in.

It has worked on every BCG I have ever used to get it in in one swift push.

Go try it, thank me later.

It's a Spikes BCG I believe it is M-16 style and shrouded (I have to drop the Firing blind)
The odd thing is the new FPRP I got from Brownell's is quite a bit MORE splayed than the origilan but it goes in the far side easier, Go figure.

This thread here may answer some of your questions.  Also pay attention to the last post.  YMMV

I push down as I'm pushing in, works every time.
