[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Bore Guides

I've read and searched, but the 30 day search limit yielded one hit for a .308.

Bore guides: it sounds like a good idea. I've seen a lot of pictures, and they don't all look the same at all. Do they all work the same? Do they all go into the upper in place of the bolt carrier group? Do I have a clue? Any recommendations on particular guides?

Does this thing go into the upper receiver in place of the bolt carrier? Do all bore guides work the same way?

When choosing a cleaning rod, it must be long enough to clear the back of the bore guide, no? Does it need to be long enough to clear that back of the upper receiver?
