Guys I looked in my safe today and noticed a brown spot on the barrel of my Beretta Storm... I think that finish is parkerized but I'm not sure.   Anyway, I was able to wipe it off completely with my finger... would rust wipe off that easily?  I just wiped this baby down 3 weeks ago and didn't notice anything... it's been sitting in the safe the whole time and the only time it got "touched" is when I brushed my arm up against it when reaching for something in there...

Once you wiped it off, does the metal look ok in that spot, or is it still discolored?

I don't think it is still discolored, I will have to look again when I get home...  I didn't really keep track of where the spot was because I just wiped it off in  a "what the hell is that" kind of moment... I use rubber gloves when handling my guns because my hands get sweaty... I literally wiped it off with the tip of my finger, didn't need a rag or anything, and had a brown smudge on the rubber glove after.

Parkerized does not mean it will not rust.  Parkerized steel just holds oil better than blued steel, so oil your barrel then wipe off but leave a film.

Actually, I think the Storm is painted and not parkerized...

so would rust just wipe off without leaving the metal discolored?

If it was corrosion (rust), it probably wouldn't have been that easy to remove, and you would definitely be able to see a difference on the non-corroded metal below, because the metal or finish that corroded wouldn't be there anymore.  You're probably ok.  Don't know what part of the country you live in, but if it's a humid area, silicone impregnated cloths work great for preventing corrosion, just wipe the guns down with them before storage, and every few months to be safe.

I think there was a scratch in the finish where I saw the "crud" that may or may not have been rust.  I am in the north east where it has been humid as hell; however the safe only got to 55% RH due to my use of silica gel.... I just wiped the thing down 3 weeks ago with Eezox gun oil...  I guess I should go inspect the family tonight and give em all a wipe down with the silicon cloth.

the northeast can get somewhat humid, but not nearly like FL, LA, gulf coast of TX, those are the types of places where you really need to be aware of it.  Still won't hurt to wipe them down though.  Do you have a safe dehumidifier in addition to the silica gel?  If not, you may want to get one of these:  goldenrod

Apply a light coat of CLP to the exterior of the weapon, using a cheap paint brush. Follow up with a wipe down.

well I didn't see any discoloration of the metal... have no idea what it was... I use two 750 gram  silica gel units and a golden rod...
