I am a newbie and just received my first AR-15 Stag rifle, the lower had a nice or should I say ugly scuff mark, as if another piece of metal hit it.
Is there any way to fix/cover this mark? It's about 1/8 wide. |
| The hard coat anodizing that protects the aluminum, can NOT be replaced, if you try to buff out a scuff, you're probably going to remove more of the hard coat anodizing and the area that you buff will be more prone to worse scratches/scuffs and corrosion. I'd treat it like people already suggest, clean it and color it and don't do anything that would harm the remaining hard coat around it. |

Aluminum Black or a Sharpie
Aluminum Black is a chemical that "should" change the surface of the bare aluminum black in color, it may come out gray in some cases. (Its doe NOT create a hard shell like hard coat anodizing, only anodizing does that). The Sharpie just colors it. You may have to re-do it from time to time. Its a Rifle, it will get scratches and dings, many people think the rifle looks cooler if has the signs of some use. Like I said before, you try to blend the gouge, you'll just remove more of the hard coat anodizing, you don't want to do that. Just color the gouge to match and live with it. |
