torquing the castle nut.  How do I do this.  I recently installed a mil spec receiver extension on a Bushmaster and noticed the receiver extension does not cover enough of the buffer retaining pin to make me comfortable.  When installing it, the one more turn was too much and was grinding against the pin, and backing it off didn't cover enough to make me comfortable.

When I installed the extension initially, I had a lot of trouble keeping the extension properly aligned while giving the castle nut the last bit of torque to ensure a tight fit.  I do not have a vise to work with, but can drive to a friends house if needed to use one.

After a bit of reading on this forum, I saw people recommending filing off a bit of the extension threads off to get the final turn and adequately cover the buffer retaining pin.  I'm going to remove the receiver extension and reinstall.  I make a poor choice and put some blue loctite and staked the castle nut.  I'm anticipating having trouble removing the castle nut now.  The AR15 wrench I have only has one notch to grab the castle nut, so i'm thinking I should use a pipe wrench instead.  Any advice while the new plate is on the way? Thank you in advance..

I use the buttstock to align and hold steady the receiver extension while tightening the castle nut.

A pipe wrench will wreck that nut and if its on too tight the wrench will crush the tube. Try the spanner wrench first.

ETA: If you want use a little bit of heat from a torch to burn the loctite.
