"not going to do this so don't worry- disclaimer thing*

I've heard this causes your gun to slam fire I guess, but how?  do you file down the tip of the pin so more energy is directed in a smaller area, or is it something else?

I thought it was a joke started by a gun shop employee telling a customer to file the firing pin down after he was asked how he could make a legal semi auto fire full auto.

The employee knowing full well it would do nothing but rendering the gun useless.

The bolt slamming forward on a round only leaves a small, almost unnoticeable dimple on your primer; the likelihood of a slam fire is way overblown. Filling down the firing pin will produce strikes that are way to shallow on the primer when you pull the trigger.

There was a story going around on various gun forums where a guy was at a range with a FA AR-15 (M-16?).  The guys at the next bench were looking at it before he had fired it and one of them remarked that "if you file the firing pin down it will shoot full auto."  To this, our guy pulled out his Leatherman tool, opened the file, and then took a few imaginary strokes at the face of the bolt.  Then he fired the weapon full auto.  The guys at the next bench were flabbergasted and quickly left the range.  So, all in all, an urban myth.  Leave your firing pin alone.

I have not heard such a thing beside as a myth as well. I would def. not mess with the firing pin.
