I was over on a 1911 forum and there was a question up about Krytox. It is a DuPont lubricant that is supposed to be VERY slick stuff. One of the drawbacks mentioned was that it took a special solvent to remove it from the surfaces. In addition it is quite expensive but, it is supposed to be some of the slickest stuff out there.

Do you suppose there is any application for this on an AR platform or do you think it would be overkill?

Read the same post and as the norm I am always suspicious of these new "wonder Lubes". Didin't say where he bought it from and I'll bet it's on the spendy side but who knows it could serve a purpose for firearms lube. Would need to hear and read more before trying.

Who would have thought it? . . .

Here's a You Tube Video describing the product:

Hear this;

New?  Not!

It's been around for a long time and I use it all the time.  It comes in oil and grease forms and will not run off due to heat.  There's a place for it in full auto platforms and anywhere high heat and friction is a problem.  It does not smoke and can be used in an oxygen rich environment without risk of explosion.

Yes it costs a bit but the ability to be used from a sub zero to 1kdeg in seconds makes it the best there is.  There's a thread on lubes here somewhere where the poster is testing all kids of stuff, I mentioned Krytox needs to be on the list and was ignored.  But then what the fuck does he know.  It's been my little secret for a long time, now all you know too.  The specs on this stuff will drop your jaw faster than a perfect set of tanned tits being thrust at you.

I shit you not!

Enjoy!

There is NOTHING to learn from that site.

Krytox is about the best stuff you can get but it's also at least 15 times more expensive than other quality synthetic lubricants.  Krytox is beyond what is normally considered synthetic.

Probably way overkill for guns except, as stated above, full auto/belt fed.

instead of being gullible why not do your own research!

Krytox is beyond what is needed for my uses.  It is a great grease for high heat (225deg C IIRC) glue pot screws on edge banders.

Yep, I had a reply on 1911forums.  I have used the stuff (Krytox) for nearly 20 years, so no, it is not new shit.  It is indeed great stuff.  I've used it on Indy cars, Formula 1 cars, Grand National/Winston Cup, IMSA, and more, and it worked great.  It's good on my .45 auto too. It's up to the shooter to decide how much he wants or needs to spend.  Just like anything else, there are ways to remove it completely.
