I'm a newbie here, and I just bought my first AR-15 within the past month.  It's an Armalite with a 16" barrel and adjustable stock.  I've stripped and cleaned it four times, and taken it out to shoot three times.  I'm trying to break it in gradually.  It's working perfectly so far.  I really like it.

My question concerns the handguards.  The manual says to use a buddy system and get someone else to compress the slip ring while I remove/reinstall the handguards.  I don't have a buddy available.  Is there any way I can do that by myself?  It seems like there should be a way to use some kind of clamp on the slip ring.

Newbie here too, but I saw this tool at CTD Handguard Removal Tool

Looks like it will do what you want.

Thanks!  That looks like it would do the trick.

Now I'm just wondering if it would cause any damage to the magazine well.  Anybody have opinions on that?

The tool is coated to prevent damage. I'm not a CTD fan.  Many more reputable vendors have them as well.
