I saw something that I have done wrong twice now when cleaning my AR. You are only supposed to send the bore brush in the forward direction from the chamber end. I have been pushing it through back and forth. I only did this twice. Please tell me I did not hurt the barrel? From now on........I will only go the right way and never push and then pull back. Damn.....I should have known that.

Whew! Thank the lord, and thanks for the info. I thought I might have made a no no with that. I took my rifle out today and shot about 150 or so rounds. Never one problem. It did wonderfully. We got it zeroed in pretty well. I need to practice though.

I highly doubt there anyway at all to hurt the barrel. But what you end up doing is destroying the brush. You can push it through till it pops out the other side and then Pull back through. Just don't change direction during the Push & Pull. Cheers WarDawg

Think about this for a second.

You are pulling the trigger, sending 3000 degree hot gas and burning self-oxygenating propellant behind a gilding metal bullet that is deforming, obturating, accelerating and spinning its way down the grooves and lands, over and over again.

You really think your little bronze bore brush will do serious damage to a surface that can take that punishment 20-30,000 times without a big problem?

It's probably ruined now...

I suggest you send your rifle to me, and go purchase a new one.

I guess I thought everything was made to go in one direction. I was reading my manual last  night and it said not to do that, and I realized I had been doing it wrong. Since you put it that way......I think I am ok now. On another note, I have got to learn to strip this stuff and clean it better. I put some cheap ammo through it yesterday. That Wolf stuff is dirty. It cycled it with no problems though. I still think I might not make a habit of using that stuff.

It will ruin your brush, that's about it.  I use the otis kit so there's no possible way to do this.
