| I got a patch stuck in the middle of the barrel. Any ideas. Freakin Otis kit. |
| Okay thanks for the replies. So ya the otis kit attatchment that holds the patch actually unscrewed from the cable, so the attatchment and the patch were in the center of the barrel without the cable attatched.. So it was even more my fault then I thought haha. I actually ended up carving down a dowel with a knife until it was thin enough to get down there because I dont have a reg. steel rod kit. Low and behold I broke the first dowel I spent about half an hour on right when I was just about finished carving it. So long story short I tried again and now it is out. WOW that sucked. And the freezing thing is interesting. I bet it would take any clp on the patch and freeze it so it would slide out easier. Not sure what the freezing point of clp is though ha. |
Otis is a great kit. Cut your own patches or buy some quality bulk patches. Ive had the tip comes off a Coated dewy solid rod before also. It's the type with the spinning head . It happens. But one caution with an OTIS kit. Don't try to pull an over sized path through it. You will know what you can pull and can't pull by just using it a few times. While it's no biggie on a AR15 , the Otis is great on an action that closed like a Grand / M14 . Chamber to muzzle cleaning....... Cheers WarDawg

the freezer is for removing the barrel from the upper, not for removing a stuck patch. Spend the 7 bucks on a hoppes kit and thread the al rod in the stuck fixture. then throw the otios in the trash. Really? I guess I misunderstood, like I said I never tried it myself. |

SEND ME YOUR OTIS KITS IF YOU DO NOT WANT THEM I WILL PAY SHIPPING! |

Ahhh, the let's bash Otis because someone can't understand how it works thread. For the 700th time. Why does this happen every week??? Read the freaking directions. I use Otis and Dewey and don't have a problem...But let's blame the kit not the operator...that's why cars and guns kill not those behind the wheel or trigger...
Hell we had a Dewey rod stuck thread last week, how the fuck does that happen???? |

IMHO, Otis kits are just fine. The key to success is using the right size patch. and following Otis directions. I have had good luck using 2" square patches for my AR. They are snug in the bore, just what you want, and extract with a firm tug. Don't give up on Otis |

Hey.. I had no Idea this thread took such an awful turn. I stated above when the incident happened that it was, in exact words, "even more MY fault then I thought it was". Which means, I thought it was my fault, but was not entirely sure what had happened, but when I realized what had happened, I KNEW it was my fault and it was a really stupid mistake.
I guess Im missing where all this hostility is coming from. I never said it had a design flaw. I made a mistake and was asking for some suggestions on how to fix it. ?? |

But when you are on a bench it can't compeet with a true rod and jag set. I find the Otis cleans about as well as a Bore Snake but at a much higher price. I still say skip it! More trouble then they are worth. |
