Just wondering how you guys clean your brushes (nylon and bronze) when they start getting all caked up.  Water doesn't work too well.  Thanks!

Thanks for the help!  I'm assuming it doesn't hurt the brushes.  Is it corrosive or anything?  Or harmful to plastic?  How careful do I have to be to get it off before using the brushes on the AR?

Brake cleaner won't hurt the brush or the rifle. Many people spray out the crud from the nooks and crannies with brake cleaner. I use it to clean the breach face and around the barrel extension lugs where it's hard to get a rag. Just make sure to re-lubricate well. Brake cleaner will pretty much remove any oil or grease.

Glad to hear you mention that - I cleaned my AR for the first time the other day (I'm a newb, not one of those run-the-gun-into-the-ground guys), and I was thinking that the barrel extension/kugs were really the only hard part to get to.  You blast them out with brake cleaner?  I thought I remembered from reading that non-chlorinated carb cleaner was OK, but brake cleaner wasn't.  I have to do some more reading....
