does anyone use these? seems like cloth cleaning patches would be just as effective.

Have them and use them all the time. They work better than my Sinclair lug cleaning tool witch uses a single swab to rotate inside the extension, but doesn't get to the lugs. The chambermaid cleans both surfaces.
