I'm new to AR's, but not working on guns in general... although sometimes I'm dense.  I'm trying to back off the buttstock nut ring to swing out the latch plate.  It is really stuck and I'm tired of wailing on it.  I've already had to order a new nut ring.  I'm using the DPMS stag wrench on this DPMS LR308, but nuttin' is happening.  Could someone PLEASE give me a clue.  Thanks,
Hoss

I have had success loosening lots of tight hardware by pouring boiling water on the ring, then loosening it. The hot water will expand the metal without danger of overheating and annealing it.

Ya did check to make certain the castle nut is NOT "staked" first right?

It is possible DPMS placed locktight on the nut so some serious torque may be required to break it free....

I have heard of some people actually having to take a hammer and punch to it.  I would try my best to avoid this, but if worse comes to worse...

Steal your wife or girlfriends hair dryer and heat that SOB up as hot as you can.  Not only will it loosen any lock tite in the threads the metal will expand at different rates making it easier to remove.  If that doesn't work, I would take a hammer and a punch and whack at it til it is destroyed and off.
