I'm new to cleaning ARs.  I'll be getting my kit shortly for an M4gery .  It' a 16" bbl.  I read o a sticky (in this forum) that the minimum length needed for a cleaning rod is 30".  Is that true or will a 26" due?

26” would be cutting it close for comfort I think. 30” is much better, it’ll hang out of the barrel about 4” and gives you plenty of room at the handle.

ETA:

Below is my cleaning rod. At 33" it works great for all my rifles whether it be my 98k Mauser, 20” SAM-R clone or 16” carbines.

Thanks Quib,
I picked up that exact one.  I think it'll work well.
