I just purchased my first AR a Bushmaster XM-15 and would like to know if i need to keep a light coat of gun oil on the outside?

I very lightly apply CLP to the exterior of my rifle with a cheap paint brush, then wipe down with a black t-shirt.

I concur ... make sure you use the black "T" shirt or you will leave visible lint on the gun, that would drive me crazy. Black doesnt show.

ETA: The "crazy" part.
