Wonder what others think of this info from Bushmaster."it is difficult to push an new, stiff bore brush through the bore.  You will find it much easier, and more effective to PULL your bore brush through the bore.  Also, because the brush will clean better if the bristles follow the grooves.  You want the bore brush to be allowed to turn as you pull it through.""Attach three rod sections together but leave each one about two turns short of being tight.  Attach the patch holder but leave it two turns short of tight also.remove handle from cleaning rod and insert into chamber (caution: do not let the rod or its thread end scratch the carom lining of the bore or firing chamber.Attach the handle section  and swab out bore with a patch of moistened "CLP".Remove patch holder and attach bore brush (leaving it two turns short of tight).Pull the brush through the bore and out the Muzzle.  You should be able to see the rod twisting as you pull it - this is the brush "tracking" in the rifling.NEVER reverse the direction of the bore brush while it is in the bore. After one pull, take off the handle section and repeat the process.  After three or four pulls, the three rod sections and the bore brush may become screwed tightly together.   Loosen them up and repeat the process.Send a patch through the bore occasionally to help clean out the crud that the brush is getting loose.  Remember, always have the bore wet with cleaner before trying to pull a brush through. This is from Bushmaster operating and safety instruction manual for all Bushmaster XM15 and C15 models. What are your thoughts????  I don't have an opinion, just want some feedback.

Pretty standard cleaning instructions, and pretty much direct from the Army -10 Operators Manual.

Making his own way with very litel help , now at  23 ( car paid odd, mortgage under control big time and doing a good job every day of his life and working every day).  This is the kid who you want your kid to be, so help me out just a little. He can now out shoot me any day of the week and loves it (stinker).WHAT HAPPENED TO THESE KIDS??????  Hard to find a place to shoot, every place I went to as a kid is GONE.  He can hardly fire his weapon, what happened? He wants to do things right without upsetting all the folks, but we never even tell people we have  a gun because they think we are crazyNow, he'll try ever tying you suggest if it makes good sense.  Please help us out as I don't have the right answers. He shoots sometimes way too fast, NO shxx, he might just not have enough time to figure it out all by himself and if you know what MS means, you know I'm not kidding. Now, I'm the old man, pushing 60 hard, Coast Guard in the late 60's, we did not train or shoot AR/M16.Place to shoot  (finally found one)Cleaning:  he is really trying to do it right.Barrel break in :  same as aboveOverall"  No kidding, this young man could really be the poster boy for the NRA, clean cut but NOT perfect and at 23 making his own way.  The kids I see coming up don't know shXX and have NO WORK ETHICS.So, I'm old and never had the training to give me boy, help me out here and maybe you might meet a good kid in Kansas.More than cleaning stuff, just in the Midwest (Kansas) looking for help. I'll bet a lot of others feel this way.

The manual that comes with the Bushmaster is pretty much a copy of the older manual the the Army and Marines used to issue.  The newer manual is thicker, and has a lot of crap that doesn't apply to civillians, but the cleaning is pretty much the same.
Look at the top of the page, at the the first three tacked threads.  The first has links to download cleaning and operating manual.  The second has tons of information on how to clean. The third has places to actually buy cleaning materials.

Bushmaster's published cleaning info is good basic instruction, but over time, everybody will gradually evolve a technique that works best for them.

It CAN be a problem to push a patch through the bore, but it DOESN'T NEED to be.  Different cleaning patch and jag combinations will offer too much resistance, or too little resistance, or be JUST RIGHT.  I use a Dewey rod and jag with Hoppes synthetic patches; this is a combination which is just right.
