| Wonder what others think of this info from Bushmaster."it is difficult to push an new, stiff bore brush through the bore. You will find it much easier, and more effective to PULL your bore brush through the bore. Also, because the brush will clean better if the bristles follow the grooves. You want the bore brush to be allowed to turn as you pull it through.""Attach three rod sections together but leave each one about two turns short of being tight. Attach the patch holder but leave it two turns short of tight also.remove handle from cleaning rod and insert into chamber (caution: do not let the rod or its thread end scratch the carom lining of the bore or firing chamber.Attach the handle section and swab out bore with a patch of moistened "CLP".Remove patch holder and attach bore brush (leaving it two turns short of tight).Pull the brush through the bore and out the Muzzle. You should be able to see the rod twisting as you pull it - this is the brush "tracking" in the rifling.NEVER reverse the direction of the bore brush while it is in the bore. After one pull, take off the handle section and repeat the process. After three or four pulls, the three rod sections and the bore brush may become screwed tightly together. Loosen them up and repeat the process.Send a patch through the bore occasionally to help clean out the crud that the brush is getting loose. Remember, always have the bore wet with cleaner before trying to pull a brush through. This is from Bushmaster operating and safety instruction manual for all Bushmaster XM15 and C15 models. What are your thoughts???? I don't have an opinion, just want some feedback. |

The manual that comes with the Bushmaster is pretty much a copy of the older manual the the Army and Marines used to issue. The newer manual is thicker, and has a lot of crap that doesn't apply to civillians, but the cleaning is pretty much the same. Look at the top of the page, at the the first three tacked threads. The first has links to download cleaning and operating manual. The second has tons of information on how to clean. The third has places to actually buy cleaning materials. |

Bushmaster's published cleaning info is good basic instruction, but over time, everybody will gradually evolve a technique that works best for them. It CAN be a problem to push a patch through the bore, but it DOESN'T NEED to be. Different cleaning patch and jag combinations will offer too much resistance, or too little resistance, or be JUST RIGHT. I use a Dewey rod and jag with Hoppes synthetic patches; this is a combination which is just right. |
