My M&P 15T is my first rifle, so please excuse the basic questions. I've tried reading through these forums and using the search. I'm debating between an Otis Tactical system and a Dewey rod setup. What would I need for the rod setup? The list I've come up with for the rod setup is: 22C 30 Coated Rod (What length rod is needed?) AR15 Chamber Rod and brush 22cph jag Bore guide. (muzzle or breech?) Any additions or inputs are greatly appreciated. |

I've never used any of the Otis stuff so I can't comment on that. I do however use Dewey rods for all my firearms, well I take that back, I use a Tipton rod on my .308 bolt gun. Both of these rods are top notch in my opinion. My Dewey rods have a male end on them. You can either use jags that have female threads on them or you can get an adapter that will allow you to use jags that have male threads. I think most folks that sell the rods also carry the adapter. An adapter should come with every rod in my opinion. As far as length goes my advice is to get a bore guide (one that inserts into the chamber) first. Once you have the guide separate the upper and lower. Insert the guide into the breech and take a tape measure and measure from the end of the bore guide to the end of your barrel. Buy a rod that will allow a brush or jag to fully exit the barrel during cleaning. I use brass jags and bronze brushes to clean my rifles. I also use plastic jags and nylon brushes when I use ammoniated cleaners to remove the copper from the barrel. The ammonia will attack the brass jags and bronze brushes because they are both partially copper. If you use them with ammonia it'll look like you're never getting all the copper out of the barrel. How's that M&P shoot? Does it have a free floated barrel? I've got two M&P pistols and I really like them alot. Shabo |
