I just got home from the range. Something very important just came up and I need to leave tonight and won't return for 2 days. I have NO time to clean my rifles until I get back. I know you are supposed to clean ASAP. I put 100 rounds through each rifle. One is Bushy DCM non-chrome lined, and other is chrome lined. I have Hoppes #9 powder solvent, Hoppes Elite foaming gun cleaner, BF CLP, and Rem oil. What should I do to the rifles to hold them over for 2 days (barrel and BCG)? REALLY I only have enough time to apply something quick before I leave.

Just add a little CLP and you will be good.  You should be good anyway as I have left guns dirty for LONG periods of time.

Wet CLP patch down the bore, wipe down the bolt and carrier with CLP.

Be generous.

And when he gets home, they should clean up all the better, no?

No one said it was. But, cleaning ASAP does make things easier verses letting carbon and crud harden over an extended period of time.

As far as cleaning times go: We all have our own standards when it comes to cleanliness. Maybe he felt the time he had available was not adequate.

I asked when i got home, and hit refresh when i get a chance. Cleaning my rifles takes me minimum 2 hours. (OCD) Everytime I clean them they NEED to look like the day I first bought them. I can't help it.

When I offer to take any of my friends shooting, they know to budget in a good bit of time for the aftermath. I clean my weapons, and I clean them until they are clean. I do not set a stop-watch, I don't even look at the watch. Personally, I find it very relaxing and tend to lose myself in the task, only to finish and realise I have been cleaning for a couple of hours. I don't have much of a standard though, I guess I approach this with the KISS philosophy in mind. I clean my weapons until...they are clean.

Cleaning for me is just as enjoyable as shooting, and it‘s a responsibility that goes right along with weapons ownership.

I like to clean "smart". And if I can find a way to make things easier (like BF CLP/MS soak) then I will. But cleaning for me never was and never will be a “timed event”.

i was just wondering i keep my weapons clean also but i dont always clean then rigth after i get done shooting i thought i might be missing something important.

once at the range i saw a guy who ran  a patch down the barrel after every round i thought it might be OCD or something.
