| Well, I used it on my cam pin and every shiny-spot on the carrier. IT really feels like it smoothed things up. RIG+P is a VERY light grease. I use it on my SIG226 Elite ST and when it was new the RIG+P provided less drag on the slide than did any other lube I used (Stainless sigs are famous for weak ejection when new in 9mm cal). I didn't cake the BCG, just put some on the shiny spots OVER CLP. Should dilute it some, but it sure felt smooth! |
Tetra and RIG+P are 2 different animals. I ran Tetra on my SIG and every case would either BARELY make it out, or hit me in the face (fly stright back, a sign of weak ejection/low slide velocity). When I tried RIG+P, the same cases that hit me in the face would now go about 4' off my right shoulder, the way they should. RIG+P over CLP will all but turn liquid after the head of a couple of rounds. Even sitting there it is very near a liquid. If Tetra was a "10" on the thickness scale and Breakfree LP was a "3" then RIG+P would be a 5-7. It is some pretty thin stuff when spread on over a liquid like CLP or FP-10. |
Really. When I started using Tetra grease it was on my SIG 225, which ran great on it. Since then I’ve used Tetra on my 1911A1 and my XD9, again with good results. Strange that the Tetra caused such problems with your SIG. |
My experience also. I run Tetra on my Semi pistols and never any issue for years now. I also use BreakFree LP on some pistols. Just what mood I'm in while lubing. Both have served me and my equipment well. I have never used RIG .+P But I'm sure it's good also. There alot of great products out there. I just narrowed it down to Breakfree products and Tetra grease. Now I do use Lubriplate 12oA on my Garands and Plastilube on my M14's. I do it " Just Because " |
Funny you mention Lubriplate. I have some left over from my days in General Aviation. Having heard that you Garand guys use it, last weekend I thought I’d try some on my 1911A1. I was pretty impressed, the Lubriplate really stays put. |

With the exception of the Garand and M14, there really is no need for grease on these guns. FP-10 or Weapon Shield have EP chemistry that protects the sliding parts without the need for the extreme viscosity and mess that is grease. Most people don't know (and I didn't until fairly recently) that the hypoid gears in a differential slide across one another as they mesh/de-mesh. This is why gear oils use EP/anti-scuff chemistry to protect the gears. The sliding motion in a firearm is similar. |
Personal opinion. And with all the “lube technology” aside for a minute, I find grease less of a mess than oil when it comes to lubing pistols. |
It is a SIG 226 Elite ST in 9mm. THey are known for weak ejection with 115gr budget ammo when new. I LOVE to make sure things are lubed WELL, so I put the Tetra all over the frame/slide rails and then slid the two pieces back togather and wiped off the excess. Apparently the Tetra lowered slide velocity a good bit compared to RIG when I treated them both the same way. On a side-note, I once lubed the BCG with ONLY RIG+P on a Colt 6601 and it fed/fired about 60 rounds of regular brass-case just fine and then 20 rounds of WOLF 62gr black-box polymer as well. The RIG is good stuff and when you need a thinner grease than Tetra, it has done very well for me. |
Can't have that can we? www.engineersedge.com/lubrication/extreme_pressure_additives.htm www.g96.com/test_frame.html Check page 8.
To each their own. I used to be a greaser and can't believe I ever dealt with that stuff after having gone to quality oils. With the WS, the junk wipes right off with a paper towel and is ready to be relubed. |
| Honestly I put greae really only on Garands and M14 and also on the caming area of the Bolt Carrier and cam lugs / locking lugs on AK's. If I grease a pistols slide I normally grease extremely light and place a extremely light smearing drop of Breakfree LP over it. It lights up the thickness but stays put really well. IMO WarDawg |
| i use rig on the hinge of my o/u shotgun year round. in the hot louisiana summers, i sparingly use rig with my ar15s and semiautos since regular oil (usually clp) tends to burn or run off while at the outdoor range. in what we refer to as winter, i just use clp. |
