Wow thats a really good thread... alot of good info. But it just doesnt show how to remove it. Do I punch it out? How would you or anyone else do it without scratching anything?

Yes, punch it out.  I would use some blue masking tape around the hole in case the punch slips.  Make sure you support the ears of the receiver to avoid breakage.  A Northern Tool or Brownell's catalog comes in useful here.

I have heard of even experienced people with the right tools breaking a tab before. Scared me out of doing mine or having it done. BE CAREFUL

Thanks buddy.

I think a few weeks away from this place every so often is not a bad idea.

Depress the "winter trigger" pin and flip down the trigger guard.  Carefully drive out the remaining roll pin.  Align the Magpul guard and start driving the original roll pin back in.  Once the roll pin is back in place, put the little allen screw in.  You're set.  Too easy right...

Yes very easy... just was scared a little when others say it easy to crack the lower... So I put like 4 drops of CLP last night and let it sit... Today I flipped open the guard, I put a small screwdriver that fits in there and gave it two gental taps with the butt of a larger srewdriver (rubber handle) and it slid out half way. I just pulled the rest of it out with a small vise grip. CLP I think helped alot. I gave it a few whacks before and it wouldnt move. i guess the CLP lubed it up a little so almost no pressure let it slide out. Thanks for the help and tips you guys.

Glad it worked out for you.  I would, however, highly recommend picking up the proper tools if you plan on building your own.  I ordered a whole bunch of punches a couple of hammers, armorer's wrench, action block, etc.  The job is so much easier with the right tools.  Now that I've got them, I'm much more confident and enjoy the assembly process more.

The pivot pin detent tool is my favorite.  I don't launch the pins across the room anymore.

That is something I need to look into... I also have springs flying around... and being in a garage with crap everywhere is a real PIA. If you dont mind can you list the basic tools I should keep on hand? I dont look into getting into heavy gunsmithing, just basic upgrades, repairs and replacements.

The first picture shows (from L to R) Basic roll pin punch set.  The pivot pin detent install and removal tool, a flat sided punch for the bolt release pin, a FSB pin punch, gas tube punch and a plastic thing for the mag release button.  On the bottom is the armorer's wrench.  As a bare minimum, I would get a punch set, hammer and the pivot pin detent tool for lower assembly.

This next one is the interchangeable end hammer I picked up from Brownell's, a strap wrench for free float hand guards and a buttstock wrench.  Notice that the strap wrench has a bottle opener on the end.  The dillo in my box will perfrom the same function too.

This is the tote I store all of the smaller tools and parts in.

I bought this because it supports the FSB better for pin removal.

This is the action block I ordered for clamping into the vise for barrel work.

Keep in mind that this is what I use to make my life easier and there are many folks on here that may have some better ideas.

Knock the rollpin out with a 1/16" punch. Be sure to support the bottom or you will break off the tab. Here's how I do it:

Remove from either side. Just support the opposite side.
