Hello all, I am a lurker here and this is my first post. I am having problems with chamber brushes. When I use them they tend to "strip" if you will and the brass female end comes off the twisted wire. I have tried pounding the brass flat on the wire but it cracks apart. Anyhow, I still have an old chamber brush from my time in the Army and it is locked in the brass good but the steel wires are worn down. Does anyone else have this problem and if so, is there a sollution available? |

No, I mean the brass bart that screws into the cleaning rod section. In 14 years in the Army I never had this problem. The last two chamber brushes I have purchased have both pulled out of the socket and I have to use pliers to get them out of the chambers. Thanks for the response. |
| I have that same problem. Each time I use the brush the small brass end twists right off. I know I am using the correct brush. They should make those ends out of steel. I havent been able to use a chamber brush yet on my Bushy. I just clean the hell out of it with a tooth brush and an angled hemostat. Works for me. |
I assume you are using it correctly? I never put any stress on that part of the brush. I twist it to the right while gently pushing it in, and continue twisting a few turns, then keep twisting the right while slowly withdrawing it while using my USGI cleaning rod kit to make a T-handle. I don't see how yo uare stressing that brass part at all unless you are ramming it in and ripping it out or something. |
| I am using them right. Where the wire legs enter the brass part, the brass is sorta crimped with a small stake mark on it. My guess is that the brass isn't crimped or staked enough to really grip the twisted wires. When I try to crimp them better the brass breaks. The brushes are just some generic things I picked up from a gun store. Is there a certain brand of brushes that seem more hardy? Like I said, my old army brush is fine but the bristles are worn down. Thanks again. |
Buy a new USGI one, sounds like a crap brand. |
| I managed to solve the problem...I took a wire crimper/stripper set of pliers and crimped the brass down around the wire legs. Works good now. I have gone thru three brushes before this. It works for now but I guess I gotta find a better supplier of brushes. Thanks for the help and recommendations. |
