I know the procedure for a barrel break in, but the point of the break in is that the chamber is not lapped, and when the round is fired, any small imperfections in the chamber will shave small pieces of copper off. At the high pressures in the chamber, the copper becomes liquid and gets distributed throughout the bore. This is the reason for the shoot once, clean theory. I have broken in barrels using EEZOX and Hoppes #9 but i just purchased a higher end noveske ss barrel and wanted to make sure I was doing it right. Do I NEED an ammonia based cleaner to remove the copper? If so what should I use and how can I make sure there is no ammonia residue in the bore before I take the next shot? Thanks :D |
| I use the Hopes foam bore cleaner. Let it stand for 30 min and then run a patch through. You know the copper is being removed when the foam is coming out blue. I don't have a high end barrel but its chrome lined and it works for me. I have over 2k rounds through the Bushy and have yet to run a brass brush through the barrel. |
