I am in the process of building a bench in the garage and will thus have cleaning products neatly stocked away on shevles and what not, but for taking to the range or taking to the living room, do any of you use a box (tool box, tackle box, etc) to keep your cleaning stuff in?  Anything in particular stand out as far as usefulness?  Right now I'm using an old Army range bag but my stuff is just kinda tossed in there...

3 layer tool box, plastic.  Get it big enough the first time as you will add junk all the time.  Sight tools, lubes, rods, brushes, wipes, etc...tooth picks, dental tools, stripper clips to cut the brass off and make shims if needed, etc....

My range box where I keep spares, tools and cleaning supplies.

A search of the M&C forum helps some times.

QUIB,

Anyone ever tell you that an immaculately organized range box is a sign of a deeply disturbed mind?

Nope, can’t say that I have.

Organization and high standards. As in all aspects of my life, I consider a sign of professionalism.

I have three systems so far.

1) My 20"HBAR has a little bottle of CLP and two jags and some patches right in the buttstock storage compartment.  I keep a one piece cleaning rod for it in a metal cleaning rod case I bought from Sinclair Int'l.

2) I have a small tin can (not a beer can; a good one, the kind with a tightly fitting lid that you can buy at Michael's or A.C. Moore for about two bucks) that is approx. 4" in dia and approx. 6 1/2" high.  In it I can fit everything I need for a quick range cleaning except the cleaning rod.  This cleaning kit goes in the crate in which I keep my bench rest and other range equipment.

3) The final system is my most recent creation and is for serious cleaning and maintenance when away from home, such as if I go on a training course.  This system is a large Plano case with built in rack for holding a carbine during cleaning plus plenty of space for any and all cleaning supplies and a decent collection of tools in the event something breaks and needs to be fixed.  My one piece cleaning rod for the carbine (30") is protected in a length of 3/8" i.d. clear nylon tubing and lives in the rifle case with the carbine (see previous post, "No Mar" Cleaning Rod Case for $3.00).
