| How many rounds before an m4gery needs parts replacement, barrel gas rings ect and how can yo tell aside form the gun not working. |

There is no magic number. Each rifle will have different values based on how well it was cared for and how it was shot. Get a copy of TM 9-1005-319-23&P for your own troubleshooting and PM of the rifle. Read the book and get to know your parts by sight and feel as you clean each time. There are lots of 20 year old m16A2s out there with all original springs and rings and they work fine. |

I replace all springs at 5,000 rounds just to be sure the gun will go bang. The barrel should last around 20,000 rounds if you're not shooting "Excessively Over Powering" loads. Check your extractor claw o make sure it is clean and un-worn by gripping the claw with your thumb nail. If it grabs the nail you're good. If the nail slips off the claw, replace the extractor.
