I need to replace a hammer in a new Bushmaster AR-15 lower in order to use a particular upper.  I've never done this, and I assume it's really simple but I want to make sure there's no suprises; I checked the sticky post (AR15 Field Stripping and Cleaning) but didn't see anything in there about it.
Does it matter which side the pin is pushed out from?  Is it stuck in there really tightly (requring a hammer and drift) ? Or will it pop out if I just push it with a bullet?

You can remove it from either side. There is a small groove in the middle that interacts with a small spring to retain it. Some will push out easier than others but it shouldn't take more than a light tap.
